The Billi and Bernie Marcus Foundation. It is a pleasure to announce the Foundation has awarded the Philosophy Department a five-year grant to partially fund the Institute for the Study of the History of Philosophy. This is a unique opportunity for the department to move forward as a leader among programs centered in the history of philosophy. The grant will support the first two phases of the Institute, including both the speakers' series and the summer seminars on a topic in the history of philosophy. We owe deep gratitude to the Marcus Foundation as well as to Dean Bobby Paul and our colleague Don Verene for their invaluable efforts on securing the grant.
The Ronald and Patricia Nicholson Endowment. We are very pleased to announce the Philosophy Department has received a most generous gift from Ronald and Patricia Nicholson. This gift is intended for the enhancement of our undergraduate program. On April 26 we will hold our first Phi Sigma Tau dinner. The dinner will be followed by the induction ceremony and a talk by Professor Daniel Garber of Princeton University on the topic "God and the Philosophers: Why Early-Modern Philosophers Needed God." Students who are eligible for membership in the honor society and students who were inducted last year will be receiving invitations soon. Our thanks to the Nicholsons for giving us this opportunity.
